It was time for a rest day today for me – the towns were starting to blur into each other! We had a long sail (cruise) this morning, though there’s always time for a swim stop. The Adriatic is beautiful clear water and about 24oC – it’s not hard to get in at all! It is also really buoyant – more salt than I’m used to perhaps.
We arrived on the island of Hvar (drop the H to pronounce this), but due to winds we went to Jelsa (J = Y sound, so it is pronounced “Yelsa), a smaller town on the opposite side of the island to the town of Hvar, which was the one we were supposed to tour. Hvar is another ancient town, rich with history – a fortress, churches etc. But since we had to take a bus over the hill, I decided to stay in Jelsa and read a book, had a swim, took a walk around the town and coastline. I think the slowing down finally caught up with me, and it was time for a chill day. [Yes, cruises are chill, but also not chill. There is a structure and a timeline – even the resting times are scheduled… so I opted out and did my own thing.]
Jesla was a much smaller town and lovely to walk around. Less tourists and humanity everywhere. Lovely food (though everywhere is good food!).
